A rubber strip or grooves at the front edge of the tread help lessen the slickness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The handrail helps to keep balance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An open staircase must have safety slats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that the staircase is properly illuminated.
